Two pieces resting on each other are not joined: if you move one, the other stays put. Welding them turns them into a single body that moves and rotates together, and you can undo it whenever you want.

🎯 The challenge of this lesson

Solder two boards in an L shape, move one and check that the other follows; then unsolder them and repeat the gesture to see the difference.
